What a typical expedited passport costs
- Adult renewal, expedited with 1-3 day return: $216.87 in government fees.
- First adult passport, expedited with 1-3 day return: $216.87, plus the $35 acceptance fee.
- Child under 16, expedited with 1-3 day return: $186.87, plus the $35 acceptance fee.
- Adding a passport card to an adult book: $30 more, for $246.87.
Passport photos and any service fee from a private expediter are separate from these government fees.
Who pays the $35 acceptance fee?
You pay it only when you apply in person on Form DS-11: a first passport, a child's passport, a passport that was lost, stolen or damaged, or one issued more than 15 years ago. Renewals on Form DS-82 skip it.
The acceptance fee is paid separately from the application fee.
How do you pay the government fees?
The State Department application and expedite fees are paid by check or money order made out to the U.S. Department of State.
If you file through Global VIP Services, you can pay us by debit card, cash or check and we obtain the money order for a $15 fee.
Is expedited service worth $60?
According to the State Department, routine processing takes 4 to 6 weeks and expedited processing takes 2 to 3 weeks. Neither includes mailing, which can add up to 2 weeks each way.
The State Department recommends expedited service if you travel in less than 6 weeks. If you paid for it and your application was not processed within the stated time, you may be able to get the expedite fee refunded.

Is the $35 acceptance fee included in the $130?
No. The $35 acceptance fee is paid separately, and only when you apply in person on Form DS-11.
How much is a passport renewal in 2026?
An adult renewal is $130. Expedited service adds $60 and 1-3 day return delivery adds $26.87, for $216.87.
How much is a child passport in 2026?
A child's passport book is $100 plus the $35 acceptance fee. With expedited service and 1-3 day return delivery, the government fees come to $186.87 plus $35.
Can I get the $60 expedite fee back?
If you paid for expedited service and your application was not processed within the stated time, the State Department may refund the $60. The application and acceptance fees are not refundable.
