Every India visa needs
Valid passport signed, 1 blank page, valid 6 months from departure.
Copy of valid ID with a matching address, or a utility bill.

For tourism only
- Maximum stay 180 days per visit, with a 2-month gap between tourist visits.
Former nationals of India
- Former nationals of India and their spouse and children should apply for an Entry visa, which has no 2-month gap rule.
Minors under 18
- Birth certificate, both parents' passport or ID copies, and a notarized Parental Consent Form.
Business letter
- On company letterhead with an original signature, stating the India contact, purpose, days, lodging and financial guarantor.
Invitation letter
- On the India company's letterhead, original or scanned.
Letter or Certificate of Incorporation
- From the inviting India business.
Employment visa
- For employees or paid interns of an Indian company, or NGO volunteers. Granted up to 1 year, extendable to 5 via MHA / FRRO.
Appointment letter
- With salary, a detailed contract letter, and your resume.
Company registration
- A copy, plus a tax liability letter and an employee details form.
Justification letter
- Showing the role needs skills not available locally. Dependents apply for an Entry visa.
The OCI card is a lifelong, multiple-entry visa for former Indian nationals and their families. Every OCI form must be notarized.
Online application
- At passport.gov.in/oci. We assist with the application, document upload and photo service.
Original Indian passport
- Current or expired, plus a copy of the personal information page.
Valid US passport
- Plus proof of US residency (a state ID or utility bill).
OCI photo
- No glasses or headwear, neutral expression, under 3 months old.
Residency status
- US immigration paperwork (H1-B, H-4, L1, L2, EAD, I-120) or green card, front and back.
Renunciation proof
- If you ever held an Indian passport, the cancellation stamp or renunciation certificate.
Child OCI
- Both parents' Indian passport copies, notarized consent letters, the child's birth certificate, and the parents' marriage certificate.
Female applicants
- Marriage certificate or divorce decree.

Print, complete and notarize these. We submit them with your application. Every OCI form must be notarized.
Apply from home
- The electronic visa is valid for 60 days from entry and is issued electronically, with no stamp in your passport.
Online form
- Complete the online form and upload your passport bio page and a plain-background photo.
Business travel
- For business travel, also upload an image of your business card.

OCI averages 8 to 12 weeks and ships both ways by FedEx ($48 each way). The eVisa is emailed to you, so no FedEx return is needed.
